Christner designed this new butterfly house and education center for a sunny meadow in St. Louis County’s Faust Park. Visitors to this beautiful sanctuary, which is home to 60 species of butterfly and tropical flowering plants, experience the wonders of a fragile ecosystem within the conservatory’s graceful glass and steel structure. In response to the educational mission of the butterfly house, Christner also incorporated a theater, a multi-purpose education room, and large exhibit hall.

Our project is a set of responsible design principles to revive the heart of the Camelback East Village Core into retrofitting the Camelback Colonade shopping center into a thriving, creative, urban neighborhood, with diverse choices for living, working and playing. The heart of the proposal is the adaptive reuse of the abandoned Mervyn’s department store, and parking field, into an urban, co-working business incubator, where Phoenixians can regenerate our economy with new products, services and ideas. As businesses outgrow their space, new buildings would infill the parking area, with pedestrian connections to the surrounding neighborhoods and developments, creating demands for a light rail extension. The final result would create a neighborhood similar to: West Village, Uptown, Dallas, Texas, 2000; Mockingbird Station, Dallas, Texas, 1997; Cherry Creek District, Denver, Colorado; Huntington Village, Houston, Texas; Buckhead, Atlanta, Georgia.

My dream is work with talented people to develop creative communities where people can walk from their place of work, to a coffee shop or other retail establishment, while on their way home or to a meeting. Along the way, they are locations where they can have their car serviced, dry cleaning done, or other necessities. The same type of neighborhood works for clients who need to have their car serviced, but would like to go shopping or work while they wait. Developing neighborhoods of multiple uses will make everyone more pleasant and our jobs easier to accomplish.
I have experience working with retail roll-out programs while at Jacobs and an Autobody workshop while with Cawley. I would like to work with Discount Tire to help develop new and redevelop existing stores to provide the highest quality and timely service for our customers, with comfortable waiting areas that allow for them to not miss a beat of business. I would like to help Discount Tire become a leader in sustainable auto repair and maintenance by having the greenest and most efficient facilities, cornering a growing market.

An effort to revive the heart of the Biltmore Area, we propose retrofitting the Mervyn’s at the Camelback Colonnade shopping center into a place where individuals and small businesses create an economy of innovation and creativity. Through collaboration, we strive to create community, revitalizing a resting neighborhood in central Phoenix, by overlapping disciplines and environments, to connect and interact. With this entrepreneurial spirit, we pioneer to reconnect the center with neighboring developments and complexes with pedestrian connections, rapid transit along the 51 and a neighborhood circulator, and fully realize the viable vitality of the Biltmore Village Core within the Camelback East Village. Such development will allow Phoenix to compete for the best talents with Dallas and Denver.
