Professional info

I have experience in office management and effectively working with a team to accomplish the principles of design. I have six years of experience in all phases of design and construction. I have undertaken residential, commercial, University Research, and educational design work. Major project experience includes the Ice House Lofts project in Tucson, Arizona, university laboratory facilities in Texas, Sublease Contract Management for BellSouth Louisiana, and the Monsanto Center at the Missouri Botanical Gardens. I am an accomplished AutoCAD technician, Corel Draw, Photoshop and PageMaker graphic designer.

I received my Bachelor of Arts, Major in Architecture, from Washington University in St. Louis. I studied architecture at Carnegie Mellon University’s Pre-College Summer Program for high school students. I was a shop monitor for the School of Architecture’s Wood Shop, supervising the use of metal and wood working equipment and constructing furniture for use by the school. In the Washington University School of Art Dean’s Office, I dealt with all office functions, including answering students and parent’s questions, handling confidential faculty, personnel and financial records, and scheduling appointments for the Dean.

I was an active Associate Member of the American Institute of Architects, developing many Continuing Education seminars for Interns and Professionals. Through the AIA, I have organized tours of significant works of architecture under construction in Houston and New Orleans, organized charettes and tours of threatened neighborhoods in St. Louis, developed a team of young professionals to design and rehab houses for the poor and elderly in Houston, and created the Intern Interactive for AIA Louisiana. I am involved with the Modern Architecture Preservation Project to educate and preserve significant works of Modern Architecture in Tucson, Arizona.

I am an advocate for recycling, cleaning our environment, and providing means for alternative modes of transportation. I planned a series of bicycle commuter routes in St. Louis and campaigned to bring a multi-modal transportation system to Tucson. I am working with community activists to insure a sense of shared responsibility between members of the community.

Please review my qualifications below:

Since College I have made use of Large format printers at both local and national reprogramming companies. Early in my career, I ran bluelines through the Diazo machines and trouble shot line weights and CAD problems with printers. I have coordinated various plotter styles and CAD layering systems to ensure plotting quality. I have run copies on large format copiers and worked frequently with Thomas on projects when working in architecture offices and on AIA projects.

I have experience with FTP and other file sharing sites, both proprietary to architecture offices and reprographics vendors. I have also trouble shot printing issues to meet tight deadlines. I have answered phones and directed emails. I have also worked with Bidding data bases to print and bid projects.

I look forward to speaking with you about this opportunity.

Peter Newton, CSBA

Dear Recruiter,

I am writing to inquire about the Architect – Studio Director position. I have experience with a wide variety of projects, including higher education projects for: the University of Texas at Austin, at El Paso and at Houston; Texas A & M University System at Corpus Christi and at Houston; and the University of New Orleans. I am currently working on completing my architectural registration, Project Management Professional certification, LEED Green Associate and Construction Document Technology exams. I have attained the Sustainable Building Adviser Certification as offered by the National Sustainable Building Adviser Program, Sonoran Regional location.

In my capacity as a Architectural Job Captain at Jacobs I have conducted numerous extensive facility conditions assessments and field surveys of existing and historic properties. I also managed a team of architectural draftsman in the development of projects across several states for a major retailer, coordinating and resolving project delivery and construction issues. Throughout my career I have organized numerous education and development programs for office staff and many chapters of professional member organizations like the AIA and USGBC.

I would like to schedule an opportunity to discuss my experience with your recruiters to see if there is a fit with your organization. I am interested in all positions for the growing team at your organization. I look forward to speaking with your organization presently.

Sincerely,

Peter Newton, Assoc AIA, CSBA
