This post is the playlist of a YouTube collection I have created of my favorite Autumnal themes. The idea came to me while walking around the Sunnyslope Art Walk the other week. People were starting to decorate and dress for Halloween, the shadows were long, and the sky a brilliant burnt orange, and I started thinking of songs with darker, yet warm themes. At first, I wanted to create a list of scary halloween songs, but decided that was too silly. I did not want to end up with Monster Mash, the Adams Family, Ghostbusters or Thriller. I wanted songs that were more atmospheric and had a heart of heat and light, with cold and darkness closing in. The songs did not have to all be sad or depressing, since the heart was to still beating hope of a pending spring.
So, I put out a call to my Facebook friends for suggestions, but got few. I dug through my memory of 1,000s of songs, some on LP, cassette, video, CD and MP3, to make this list.Some were suggested by news stories and YouTube itself. The list is additive, and is currently not curated to be sequential. A suggestion of such an order is welcome, as are further songs. But, here is the current list as configured, grab a sweater, set a fire, and cuddle up:
